How Does It Work?
Summer reading is really all about what works best for your family!
We host a variety of activities throughout the summer (calendars below - coming soon!), including children's programs, teen/adult programs, adults only programs, and family programs.
Reading Dragons is our new focus on reading minutes this summer - more information under that tab. But, in a nutshell, for every 100 minutes read, participants receive a set of Dragon cards to build their deck and play games with. Think of Pokemon or other card collecting/trading games - same concept, but instead of buying the cards, you earn them through reading.
You can participate in whatever portions work best for your schedule - if certain programs are of interest, attend those! If it doesn't work to attend programs because of travel, but you're reading a lot, then participate in Reading Dragons! Want to do a bit of everything - that's awesome too!
Here are the main reminders:
1. Because we are doing off site programming this year, we would really appreciate all participants of programs to register online. This allows us to have contact information and better prepare supplies for all programs.
2. If you are participating in Reading Dragons, you need to be registered on Beanstack. While there is a paper tracker for participants to mark off their minutes and keep track of which sets of dragons they've earned, the ONLY way to be entered into prize drawings for reading is through Beanstack. There is no obligation to do that part, but if prizes are enticing, we do ask that you log your minutes digitally. This method of collecting minutes makes it much easier for you and for library staff - your minutes are automatically received by the library, you choose which drawing to put your virtual ticket into, and the program will choose winners! No race to the library by the end of business on the due date!
3. Summer reading is open to EVERYONE, even adults! Even grandparents! If something says it's a children's program and you still want to attend with your kids, that sounds fabulous - because we'll be there having fun too.
4. If you miss something that was of interest to you, please check out our Digital Branch! We are planning to include videos, tutorials, and information on how to recreate programs at home!
